Day 1 Update

I’m feeling well enough to go to work today, although walking to the bus felt like a lot of work.  I’m definitely bloated and a little sore – just taking ibuprofen today.  I had to sit in a chair reclined with my feet up in order to eat lunch, but I’m able to eat a fair amount. C came up with a whey powder concoction that tastes like ovaltine : 1 cup whole milk + 1 ½ scoops whey powder + 1 packet of hot chocolate mix – it has 30 grams of protein, so I’m drinking a couple of those a day.

I got my one day update regarding the status of my eggs. Of the 45 retrieved, 32 matured and 25 were fertilized.  I was told that on average ½ of those will be gone by day ⅚, leaving us with just 12-13 eggs to test. It seems like so few when I started with so many, but here’s hoping more than 12 eggs make it. Ideally, I’d like 15-16 to test, since with the PGD & PGS testing, only 29% are expected to come out okay.

Egg Retrieval #1

Today I was in a lot of bloating/pain when I woke up.  I wasn’t allowed to have water or food after midnight last night, either. I have never been put to sleep with anesthesia before today, and I was feeling nervous about it leading up to today. However, with all the pain I was in yesterday/today, all I could think about was how excited I was to be put to sleep and get those eggs out of me! Everyone at my fertility clinic has been truly amazing, and the egg retrieval was no different. After I got dressed in my gown, hat and booties, I was led into the operating room. C had to leave to go to his sperm deposit. They hooked up the IV and gave me an oxygen mask and went to sleep. When I woke up I was on a bed in a different room and C was there. I asked how many eggs they got out, and he told me 46 —- 46 eggs is a lot!!!  That means I will never have to do this egg retrieval thing again!

I was still having moderate cramping, but the nurse gave me some vicodin/tylenol and I started to feel better. It hurt to pee, because I was dehydrated. I drank a ton of gatorade at the clinic/leaving the clinic — I think about 40 oz. — I was very thirsty.  I’ve been at house all day laying on the couch with a heating pad, alternating vicodin and ibuprofin. I feel so much better than yesterday — although it might just be the drugs talking. I’ve been eating salty food and lots of whey powder shakes and high protein yogurt. I’ve only had very minor spotting, and  I plan to go back to work tomorrow.

  • Not feeling great – bloated/cramping
  • Around 3pm started feeling nauseas, so I left work. At home I proceeded to get terrible heartburn and an awful stomachache which lasted for hours, despite taking heartburn medicine. I thought I might throw up, but it never happened. This is great, because I was trying so hard to stay dehydrated. I had a lot of trouble eating dinner, hardly ate anything.
